Zeitgeist

Demand for social advertising services is at an all time high. It is evident in the $13 billion in ad revenue Facebook/Instagram took in in 2018, and we’ve noticed this in the energy of our clients.

There is an underserved market of small business that have launched products but are running ads with little success – they can not afford agency services, but need support building their online models to take advantage of the true scaling opportunities in paid social.

The zeitgeist of social advertising is massive, fast-moving, and the biggest advertising players are struggling to make it accessible due to the barriers to entry. Anyone that can remove those to smaller businesses, will profit.

The Challenge

As a social advertising agency, Maikai has had success selling packages of social advertising from $5,000 - $20,000 per client for 1 - 3 month periods. It is however difficult to scale, as it relies on creative staff and human hires, and launching a lower price point offering for the underserved market above is limited by those creative services.

The Price Points

The estimated USD price points that small business and startup founders will risk paying to run a social advertising solution at an average confidence level over a 1-3 month period is expected in the range of:

5%: $2450 - $5000
20%: $550 - $2450
80%: $250 - $550

Market Size

An indication of the size of this underserved market is indicated by the size of active user base for small business product-launch DIY web builder applications:

Squarespace: 50,000
Shopify: 400,000
Weebly: 30,000
Wix: 332,000
Alternate Builders: 300,000 +
= 1,112,000 +

We can safely assume that based on just these four players, we can judge a very conservative assured market size of easily 1 million +. This does not take into account small scale custom builds with a similar customer profile, which are likely to more than double the above figures.

The Product

There are three components to the value an agency solution to social advertising provides. Two of them can be scaled.

A) Strategy and System

The systems that run ads, the patterns to run them in [duration, spend, target, frequency, content], and the core messages that drive people through a funnel to purchase is information critical to planning a successful a social advertising campaign.

B) Community & Support

Critical for startups and founders that are not comfortable with the technology, the strategy, or the content. Without the motivation community and coaching provides, they get stuck, or don’t make aggressive moves.

C) Creative Execution

The specific elements that need to be created - headlines for ads, and graphics for visuals - to run a campaign follow the broader plan and brand message of the business and its product, and often require a certain visual expression to perform.
